Baseline Bicycles is a new business founded and run by college student Ray Banks. Ray has always enjoyed biking, but it was on a backpacking trip through Europe in the summer of 2012 that he first began to view the bicycle as a practical mode of transportation rather than solely for recreation.
When he returned to school Fall semester, he commuted to and from school on his newly purchased road bike; he loved it. He left school temporarily in January 2013 to spend the next six months in Hangzhou, China as a marketing intern. While there, Ray started to really notice all of the beautiful fixed-gear bicycles. After learning more, he resolved to not only get one for himself, but to turn his enthusiasm for these bikes into a business.
A few months later, and Baseline Bicycles has launched! Offering beautifully designed bikes in four colors; marketing is done exclusively online and primarily through social media. Learn more about the company and the bikes being offered by following them and/or by reading their blog.
Here is the inspiring success story of Steve McCulley, a Royal Marine severely injured by an Improvised Explosive Device (IED) while on his second tour of duty in Afghanistan.
Steven, thank you for your service and we're glad you're doing well!
At LIOS I create the perfect bike for you. I offer a personalised, bespoke and unique bike fitting service, as well as build high-end custom carbon bikes and hand-built carbon wheels; like a bespoke tailor will measure for a suit, I provide that service for bikes.
Anyone who plans to ride for any period of time should consider having their position assessed to ensure optimal efficiency, comfort and injury prevention. This applies to cyclists who already have a bike, but more so to those looking at purchasing a new bike. If you are considering a new bike, want to ensure it will fit perfectly and do not want to cause injury or discomfort, you should get in touch.
I founded LIOS Bikes because I want to provide a bespoke bike fitting service coupled with a personalised client relationship. I built my first bike with my Dad when I was eight years old and started racing in Devon when I was thirteen. On leaving school aged eighteen I joined the Royal Marines. Over a sixteen-year career I served all over the world, including operational deployments to Northern Ireland, Kosovo, Iraq and Afghanistan. During the second half of my career I got into triathlons and also started competitive cycling again, representing both the Royal Navy & Royal Marines.
Unfortunately both my military career and my cycling aspirations came to an end in the summer of 2011, as I was severely injured by an Improvised Explosive Device (IED) while on my second tour of duty in Afghanistan; I spent nearly three weeks in a coma and two years in medical rehabilitation.
LIOS is abbreviated from the names of my children - Lily & Oscar.
Could this be the future of commuting bikes?
